Articles about Fashion

This season its all about what clothes just scream embellishment and look pretentious. No wait, that is every season. Every fashionista is always trying to look better than she really does, but far too many lack the common sense to realize they look like they are trying too hard to be kewl... understand the difference? These people are poseurs. They buy the latest shoes, the newest glasses (which may or may not be retro), the kewlest, most decorative jeans they can find and the end result is someone who is wearing a mish mash of competing styles... if a guy dressed that way we'd call him a douchebag. When a girl does it she is a douchebaggette.
And I will not apologize for saying that. Some people just try too hard and it shows. They flaunt their new fashion, but in reality its not new because they're copying what everyone else is doing. Worse, the poor girl is copying all of them at the same time. Please people! Don't be a douchebag(gette)!
Far too few women and girls out there know how to use a sewing machine... sewing is so easy its amazing more people don't take it up as a hobby or turn it into a profession. Everyone needs clothes. Clothes wear out. Clothes go out of fashion. Clothes don't fit like they used to. The fashion industry is everywhere and it is one of the oldest professions the world has ever seen.

on a Crowded Runway

Without question, we can count on Miuccia Prada, Raf Simons at Jil Sander, Karl Lagerfeld at Fendi and, at times, Tomas Maier of Bottega Veneta to say something with fashion, and not just offer approachable clothes (though these designers do that, too). But there should be many more designers in Milan with that driving ambition. Otherwise, the future of fashion will be in jeopardy.
The Gucci show presented by Frida Giannini was a perfect example of this point. In its conservative styling and lackluster Art Deco motifs interspersed with animal prints and equestrian tassels, the collection seemed to stoutly reject creative leadership. Ms. Giannini offered waiter-type jackets with gold trim and chain latches, worn with pedestrian pleated pants, and low-waist dresses in emerald green and cream with more gold and a loop of fabric in the back. The finale of gold flapper dresses didn’t reveal anything new about that style.

Chic In The City

The secret to style on an urban retreat this summer can be found in designers' more subdued offerings.  The decorative fringed dresses and riotous neon hues that caught the eye on the spring/summer 2011 catwalk should be confined to festivals and holidays in far-flung places as a city break demands a more pared-back approach.

Indian fashion becoming a hot commodity in the West

Styles of wearing saris and salwar-kameez have changed. The look is more cosmopolitan than region-specific. Different styles of blouses like katori style, halter-neck, back button blouses, high neck blouses, puffed sleeve blouses, etc. have become the hot favorite among women. The average lengths of the blouses have decreased. Saris are draped mostly in traditional back pallo style or gujarati style. Indian fashion scene is greatly influenced by its films. For example Mumtaz style sari draping inspired by yester-year heroine Mumtaz. Here sari is tightly draped around the body.
As far as salwar-kameez is concerned numerous styles and patterns can be given to this garment. For instance the kameez can be long, short, A-line, skin tight, etc. Such variations can be done to salwar as well as dupattas. Modern version of kameez is known as kurti, it could be coupled with jeans, pants or churidar. It has taken the form of Indo-western outfit. People in western countries too have started wearing kurtis.

Clothes Nationalist

Sabyasachi Mukherjee, who showed at Lakme India Fashion Week (20-24 October) in Mumbai, is the rising star of Indian fashion with a mission, like Gandhi in the 1930s, to persuade the country's new and old money elites to abandon their western designer party clothes and to dress instead in exquisitely simple khadi, antique Aligarh pyjamas or old world bridal gowns, but with savvy modern catwalk twists. (Gandhi asked the bourgeoisie to burn their French chiffon saris and wool and worsteds from Lancashire mills for the sake of nationalism.) "I don't believe in [fashion] fusion any more," Mukherjee has said. "I wish indo-western was never explored. It almost sounds like a pathetic attempt to woo your insecure Indian woman to try her hand at western clothing. She's better off in her sari."
